People who are sales savvy, good at marketing and are hardworking can do very well in this business. Affiliate marketing is not as easy as it sounds. There are some cautions too. When you sign up for an affiliate program, you will be asked to sign an agreement. The terms and conditions for the agreement for both sides should be outlined.  If anything is hidden they will put it there. It will either be a small writing or print or will perplex you with legal language. To avoid this, you have to read and understand your agreement thoroughly to be safe from later disappointments and lost.

If you are signing up for commission based affiliate marketing program then you must know that how the revenue is defined. This is one the biggest drawback of the contracts. They might advertise 5-10% commissions but it will depend on how they have defined revenue. Many affiliate marketing programs calculates commission on the gross value of the sale. In simple terms the amount the site will get after completion of the sale. You might think that this is great but you need to read that part of the agreement keenly. The amount of the sale excludes credit card or debit card payment surcharges. They might also exclude payment and delivery charges as well as any cost of gift wrapping or other charges. What seemed to be a nice commission will begin to shrink before your eyes.

Another thing which should be known when you are working on commissions is the returns. Many affiliate marketing companies pay commission after completing the sales or either if the consumer keeps the item. If the consumer returns that item, your commission will be canceled. Moreover they could bill you for the outstanding commission even if you do not have sufficient commission credit built up. You must understand it completely before singing up. Do not expect the company to pay for items which are returned. To avoid any such circumstances you must understand their return policy. Look for your rights in any such situation by reading that policy. 

Affiliate marketing can become a great way to earn money. If you have good marketing and sales skill, then put them to a good use and do not let this opportunity go. You could be working for yourself and not for someone else who does not value your skills and talent.
